The United States is the world's highest consumer of software programs; this means two things: the number of software programmers is growing, or the existing ones are getting more sophisticated. From a study, the number of software developers grew from 1.36 in 2017, to 4.2 million in 2019. The 4.2 million software developers, comprising of hardware engineers, actuaries, economists, mathematicians, electrical and CAD programmers, e.t.c.
There are just three US states that made up these numbers: Washington DC area (6.46%), Virginia(4.43%), and Maryland (4.41%). Others include: Massachusetts - 3.64%, Colorado - 3.48%, New Jersey - 3.40%, New Hampshire - 3.35%, Delaware - 3.16%, and California - 3.15%. This is largely higher than that of Europe, with Germany having the highest number of developers with recorded 901,000 software developers.
